Dear New Teachers,

On behalf of the Teacher Mentoring Committee we would like to welcome you into this great profession! You have made it through your classes and student teaching and now you are ready to enter your own classroom to make a positive impression on students, staff and community. Our committee exists to help you with your transition into our great profession.

We will be pairing you with a WAAE mentor who is an experienced teacher near your location that you can work with for questions, advice and resources. Our agricultural education family and entire committee are here to support you however we can, please do not hesitate to ask questions.

Did you know that WAAE offers a scholarship to offset the cost of attending our Summer Professional Development Conference for new teachers? Here's the online application link:
Beginning Teacher Scholarship Application. Applications are due June 1.

The following will be taken into account for the recipients of the scholarship:

  • If you are employed and have received a contract from a district, please work with Nicole Nelson, WAAE Executive Director and the school, as the majority of the time they will pay for you to attend the conference. In the event you are hired just before the conference begins, please work with Nicole to talk with the school about paying for your conference fees.

  • The cost of registration will be the first priority to cover for new members of WAAE, hotel cost will come second. You will be asked to share a room as this allows the funds to stretch farther and be used for more recipients.

Sunday afternoon/evening of PDC we offer a special new teacher program to assist you in your transition. Please stay tuned for information about this event and plan to attend. Here we will provide advice and resources including a new teacher binder for you. If you are hired after PDC please contact Jamie Propson to receive new teacher materials. Again, thank you for entering the profession! We are excited for you and we are here to help in any way that we can.

Sincerely,

The WAAE Teacher Mentoring Committee
